New Paul Weller DVD/CD Combo To Be Released November 29!

Paul Weller's next release is called Find The Torch, Burn The Plans, it's a 'CD/DVD Deluxe Album' and its out on November 29th on Island Records

What is it? Well, according to the label, it's a 'lavishly packaged and highly covetable DVD and CD package' mixing a 26-track live set culled from Weller's Royal Albert Hall shows, an all-new film and a music disc of his Radio 2 gig earlier this year.

The DVD movie part, directed by Julien Temple, is actually titled Find The torch, Burn The Plans and is described as 'a remarkable 50 minute portrait of one of the world's greatest musicians at the peak of his powers'. Make of that what you will.

The whole thing is packaged in a hard back book style, with exclusive images, a new interview and a 'collectable set of 5 cardboard prints' housed in a slip case attached to the back cover.

Paul Weller Talks With Clint Boon On XFM Radio!

So Paul Weller missed out on this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize with his album 'Wake Up The Nation', but he's not bitter. Although here, he tells Clint Boon about what he thinks about The xx, what it's like to stay passionate about new music and a whole myriad of topics.

Paul Weller Talks With XFM After The Mercury Award Event!

Paul Weller has revealed that he “couldn't wait to get home” after he failed to win the Mercury Prize last week.

The former Jam star's recent album 'Wake Up The Nation' was the bookies' favourite to win heading into the ceremony in London last week, but eventually lost out to The xx.

In an interview with XFM, Weller revealed that he went home straight after the announcement was made so he could watch TV.

“I'd been there all day, being old and miserable, I couldn't wait to get home,” he said. “I thought, I've had enough of this. I wasn't doing my upset diva bit, I just wanted to go home and watch telly."

Weller also admitted that he found it “hard to get excited” about the down-tempo sound of The xx's self-titled winning album.

As previously reported on Gigwise, sales of 'xx' rocket last weekend's following the band's win.

“It's not really my sort of thing. I'm not putting them down, just because they beat me,” he add…

Erland & The Carnival Set To Open For Paul Weller In New York!

They’ve made themselves known in the UK with glowing reviews of their astonishing debut in Mojo, Uncut, NME, The Guardian and more, plus raves about their live show as well; now the five-piece known as Erland & The Carnival are ready to make their mark on the US. Guitarist, singer and former resident of remote Orkney, Scotland Erland Cooper, guitarist Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good, The Bad & The Queen) and drummer David Nock (The Orb, Paul McCartney’s The Fireman) will digitally release their US debut, the “Trouble In Mind” EP, October 19th on Yep Roc/Full Time Hobby. Together, they produce a sound described by Tong as, “Pentangle meets Ennio Morricone meets Love meets 13th Floor Elevators meets Joe Meek.” In other words: folk-tinged, psyched up, fuzzed-out brilliance. It…

The Jam's Sound Affects (Deluxe Edition) Details Announced!

Released November 1, 2010:

Tellingly, when Weller came to record 2010’s Wake Up The Nation, it was Sound Affects that his collaborator and producer Simon Dine held up as a model. “He referenced it right at the start,” says Weller. “That was the sort of sound he imagined we should be going for: hard, metallic, quite stripped-down… jagged.”

Sound Affects was originally released in November 1980 at a time when The Jam was considered the biggest band in Britain. The album followed the band’s first number one single – Going Underground and features the group’s second UK number one single, Start! – a track built around almost exact copies of the bass-line and guitar solos from The Beatles’ Taxman (at the time Weller considered the album a cross between Off the Wall and Revolver!).

It includes many of the band’s classic songs - That’s Entertainment (written in a caravan in Selsey, after the pub), never released as a single in UK, the German import was a UK hit (subsequently covered by Morri…

A Review Of Paul Weller's Gig At The Belsonic Festival!

Paul Weller
Belsonic Festival, Custom House Square, Belfast

Added: 3 Sep 2010 // Gig date: 27 Aug 2010
reviewer: Francis Higney

The vanguard of the punk rock movement took time out of their busy schedules to visit Belfast during its darkest times of the 1970s. Bands like the Damned, Clash, Siouxise and the Banshees and Penetration brought a glamour fired in the London furnaces of the Lyceum, Roxy and the Rainbow to the Ulster Hall and the Pound to sate a musically and culturally starved youth. The flag bearers that were the Sex Pistols had all but imploded by the time punk had gripped the province and so were not missed. The Jam were. They became the biggest band to emerge from the new wave and their natty dress sense and sixties influences saw them embraced by the revitalised mod movement.

Belfast still has a long running love affair with punk and even today has a thriving mod scene which should have ensured a sell-outt gig for former Jam frontman Paul Weller at t…
