Paul Weller Slams Glastonbury Festival!

From NME.com Paul Weller has denounced the Glastonbury festival, pointing towards the bad weather the festival has experienced of late. Weller also pointed to the kind of people who went to the festival, claiming that recently festivalgoers hadn't been as big music fans as previously. Comparing his performance at last year's festival to that in 1994, Weller told BBC 6Music : "The difference between doing it in '94 and doing it last year was that most of the audience knew the greatest hits, whereas in '94 they were music fans. You didn’t just have to do the greatest hits, that was very noticeable to me." "The conditions are disgusting aren't they?," he continued. "I don't know how people can... I mean, you'd have to be off your box to stay there for three days wouldn't you?" "I'm not a big lover of festivals at the best of times, I like proper gigs… and it's just really corporate now isn't it?"

Modfather Unites Oasis and Blur

From BBC Newsbeat Once upon a time, Oasis and Blur in the same room would have almost guaranteed fisticuffs. But now Paul Weller has done the seemingly impossible and brought two of the biggest warring bands of the '90s to the same record...sort of. The Modfather has recruited both Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon for tracks on his new solo double album, 22 Dreams. Weller previously worked with the Gallaghers, providing guitars on Champagne Supernova on their second album What's The Story, Morning Glory. He told Newsbeat they've been trying to figure out a musical collaboration ever since. He said: "Well me and Noel have been talking about trying to write something for years now. "He had the idea for the backing track and I just put the tune and the words on top." The track in question, Echoes Round The Sun, also features Noel's bandmate Gem Archer. It's expected to be released as a double-A side with Have You Made Up Your Mind

Weller To Tour New Album in Full?

From BBC 6 Music : Paul would like to tour his new record in full 15 April 08 - Paul Weller says he would love to tour his new album 22 Dreams in full. He starts his UK tour in May, but admits that it could be a logistical nightmare: “I’d love to play the album in full – I’d love to, but some of the tracks…we would probably have about 27 musicians on stage, do you know what I mean? “So without us using tapes which we’re not keen on doing – its very difficult. Some of the things we just couldn’t replicate." New album Paul went on to talk about the new album: “I think probably overall the album’s probably a bit more produced than what I’ve done in recent years. “Not over produced but it’s got more production I would say anyway – which is not always the easiest thing to put over live. “I’m excited about playing to people – I’m really excited about people hearing the album. I can’t wait for it to come out really – you know it’s always hard to go on tour and play the new tunes before

Weller revealed the Oasis man will not be singing on the track however, saying: ""He's playing a lot of keyboards and some bass, which is not necessarily the first thing you'd think of." Graham Coxon has also contributed to the project on a track called 'Black River'. Weller said of the song: "We worked on that early last year - Graham plays drums, backing vocals and guitars." He added: "I think most musicians you just get on with it and enjoy it, and it's fun and just a joy to do." But Weller isn't just into the older generations of musicians, reports Newsbeat. He's a big fan of this week's NME cover stars The Enemy, who he recently played with a

From Virgin Radio UK Teenage Cancer Trust 2008 Interview and Pictures Virgin Radio's Ben Jones caught up with 'The Modfather', backstage at the Teenage Cancer Trust Concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall. Listen to the full interview below where Weller claims he didn’t do much on his latest collaboration with Noel Gallagher, “I just sang and drank beer” said Weller. Isn’t that what all lead singers do? And after playing sell out concerts all over the world Weller still gets stage fright, “I always get nervous anyway- regardless. I always have done – and probably always will do even after all these years. I think it is because it gives you a edge. If you didn’t care I think it would show in a performance.” Ben Jones: You’re looking well. Paul Weller: I’ve been back from holiday, rested. Ready to return to work. P: Because it’s about to go crazy again, 22 dreams. P: Yeah I hope so. I hope it does. Got a new album coming out in June. And then we’re in tour in May. B: So wh

"In The Studio" With Paul Weller!

Q No.262 IN THE STUDIO Paul Weller 22 Dreams June 2008 It’s dusk in the sleepy Surry village of Ripley. Down a path by the green Paul Weller is making a cup of tea in the kitchen of his Black Barn studios. When that task is fulfilled with only a minor spillage, he turns his attention to filling a half-pint glass with red wine. The tea is not for him, but the wine is. Today, work on his ninth solo album, 22 Dreams , wrapped up and Weller is celebrating with some gusto. His first double-disc album, 22 Dreams was made entirely at Black Barn, with Weller assisted by long-term guitarist Steve Cradock , engineer Charles Rees , Simon Dine of soul tinged electronica duo Noonday Underground , and an assortment of guests including Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon who plays drums on Black River . Gallagher, meanwhile, co-wrote one of the most memorably melodic pop songs, Echoes Round The Sun , as well as adding bass to it. The approach of Weller’s 50th birthday in May contributed to a desire t

He played the bass and the piano and then Gem played guitar on top. It’s a top tune.” The double album, due for release on June 2, was recorded over the course of a year at Weller’s own Black Barn Studios. Other collaborations on the album include the opening track, “Light Nights” with folk guitarist, John McCusker,, Little Barrie, on “22 Dreams” and Graham Coxon, on “Black River” , which was originally the B-side to their previous collaboration, “This Old Town” released last year. Paul Weller Designs A Brand New Ltd. Fred Perry Shirt!

From The Definitive MOD Source: Modculture.com - The Mod Scene Online After the success of its first Paul Weller collaboration, Fred Perry has again teamed up with Paul Weller to produce the Paul Weller Limited Edition Shirt . This isn't an adaptation of an old design, it's a brand new style designed by Weller, based on his own drawings and other reference material, with the aim of creating something 'contemporary' and 'on the money'. Although to these eyes, it has a distinctly sixties look. The design took some time to complete, involving six construction and fitting sessions, with Weller making changes.adjustments at each stage. These included making the sleeves slim fitting, a slightly longer body than a standard Perry cut, curved side venting and a myriad of detailing from buttons, stitching and colour combinations. It will now be available in black/liquorice, lake/navy, dark chocolate/liquorice and white/navy, all with Fred Perry's pique weave. 1,000 of
