Paul Weller News!

On the heels of the announcement that Paul Weller will be the face of John Varvatos in the designer's Fall 2012 worldwide advertising campaign comes "The Attic" , the third single from Paul Weller's Critically acclaimed album, Sonik Kicks. It is a pop song from a future time somewhere in the past. As Weller himself puts it, "It's like a 50s pop song, but revved up: like Helen Shapiro on gear. It's got the pizzicato strings to it, but with that manic pace, too. Lyrically, it's a bit lovelorn." However you describe it, the track is a classic Weller pop song. Paul stopped by last.fm and performed an acoustic session along with an interview. The session took place in May, but was posted just last week at the last.fm site. "When The Jam released their debut single “In The City” b/w “Takin’ My Love” on April 29, 1977 in the U.K., the heralded musical career of Paul Weller was born. Next up was The Style Council and after those days were over, Paul, not knowing in next immediate steps, eventually took on his long-standing solo career. To our ears, the release of Sonik Kicks, his eleventh studio album, brings back the focus and vibrancy of The Jam classic long-player, Sound Affects. Two days before returning (for the first time) to the site of the first 4 U.S. shows The Jam did at CBGB in October 1977 (now a John Varvatos store), Paul along with Andy Crofts and Steve Cradock graced the Last.fm studio and treated us to three songs from Sonik Kicks."
