In a taut 1 hour 10 minute set, Paul Weller went from "Eton Rifles" through to "You Do Something to Me" off "Stanley Road," along the way hitting "Shout to the Top" from the Style Council and "Empty Ring" off his new album "22 Dreams".

Without much fanfare Weller projects a depth on stage that compliments the natural richness of his music. And that's good cause on another soaked Green Stage Friday, the audience needed all the power they could get. With over 30 years playing and consistently releasing albums, he's a professional whose stage presence — steaming shirt, smoking smokes, utilitarian arrangement — confirms the songs’ sensuousness, never mind any rock history importance they may have.

Weller and the band finished of with a chunky take on "Wildwood" that is what the original sounded like if it was recorded for the album "Heavy Soul" from the mid-’90s.

Paul Weller To Appear On Dot Allison's Upcoming Album!

Paul Weller's Eden Session - A Review!

Wota Nice Day At Eden Rifles

This Is Plymouth.co.uk

IT WAS a beautiful bucolic evening beneath the biomes' brilliant blisters and about as far removed from a tube station at midnight as you can get, but amazingly we were all in mortal danger of imminent combustion.

And this despite – irony of ironies during an anti-climate change event – the fact that it was chucking it down.

But there I was being told by a glow-in-the-dark official to move because I was blocking a 'fire escape', cunningly disguised as the path next to the crowd next to the front of the stage.

This request left me somewhat confused, unable to envisage how a conflagration could get a foothold at an outdoor event, in a giant garden that was rapidly turning into a giant pond.

But, silly me, what I didn't realise was Paul Weller was about to take the stage and set us all alight even with songs called Sea Spray and Out of the Sinking.

And, boy, was the Modfather on fire. This guy was on such red hot form it was a wonder he didn't spontaneously combust. At one point his stage lights turned the raindrops gold – it was like he'd melted the sun.

And this with a passion that has been burning for more than three decades and which has seen his core audience morphing from leather-and parka-clad guttersnipes into the populace of Henman Hill.

Honestly, I haven't seen so many middle England families having a laugh since the last time I didn't go to Glastonbury. I never thought the day would come when Paul would play to more pushchairs than punks, but it has.

And maybe that's not such a bad thing. It's great for people from the middle class, middle aged, and, judging by the look of some, middle earth, to get a load of a man angrier than heat rash.

Who, other than Paul, can take the pop beauty of Come On Let's Go and make it sound like it's sung by an American wrestler?

You want fervor? He's got greenhouses full of the stuff, and it was brought to the fore on radiant renditions of From the Floorboards Up and a terrific Eton Rifles.

It was a master class in controlled aggression, and something support act Florence and the Machine would do well to study.

She was all right, in a no sandals, drippy druid sort of way, but took the recycling theme a mite too far by dredging up memories of everyone from Kate Bush to Tori Amos and not forgetting dear old Grace Slick.

But Paul isn't all aggro, casting his net over soul, pop, Latino and balladry, strutting you through Peacock Suit, inviting you to dance with 22 Dreams and holding you spellbound during a delicious Wildwood.

And by the time he closed with a fulminating Town Called Malice, it was obvious that anyone and everyone can be a Weller fan. That includes ageing mods, repentant skins, pensioners, people wearing cagoules, and judging by a couple of gravid ladies, the unborn.

It was like he'd brought the whole country together to sing as one about lights going out and a kick in the biomes. Now, That's Entertainment.

Paul Weller's New Album, "Wake Up The Nation!"

Universal extends deal with legendary solo artist
By Stuart Clarke
California Chronicle

Universal Music Publishing has extended its long-term partnership with Paul Weller, signing a new deal with the Brit legend that covers his entire back catalogue as well as future output. The renewed agreement was concluded after much negotiation last week.

Weller's latest album, 22 Dreams, was released by Island in June last year and debuted at number one in the UK. The album featured guest appearances from Oasis's Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer, as well as Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Cradock and Graham Coxon from Blur.

The album is currently enjoying a new lease of life courtesy of a sync for the album track Echoes Around The Sun, which is being used to soundtrack the trailer for the new Johnny Depp movie, Public Enemies.

Universal's president of Europe and UK music publishing group Paul Connolly says Weller is currently working on the follow-up to 22 Dreams - Wake Up The Nation - scheduled for a spring 2010 release.

Elsewhere the publisher is looking at new opportunities to exploit his work. Connolly says, "Certain quality clothing lines, bespoke art prints and collectors' merchandise items all utilising Paul's catalogue are in the works."

Weller has continued to develop his profile over recent years and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brits in 2006.

Winter Tour - More Info Trickles In...

OK, folks. We are still wary to re-post the expected (rumored) Paul Weller Winter Tour dates as they still have yet to be confirmed. Numerous people have phoned Bookings Direct and have been told the tickets will go on sale July 8. Throughout the day, there have been reports that some dates have shown up on the ticket site, but disappear just as fast. To be honest, we just don't know. It's been a crazy couple of days trying to get the correct info for you. I'm looking at the site now and there is no listing for Paul Weller. So, I'm sure there will be all sorts of speculation until we get to July 8th or we are lucky enough to have an official announcement before then. At any rate, all this excitement for concerts scheduled to take place five months from now is a true testament to the dedication that our faithful readers have for Paul.

As always, if we hear anything concrete, we'll let you know.
